Setting the resolution of a video wall in a command centre
A video wall that suddenly becomes illegible is a common incident in a command centre. Most of the time, the cause is simple: a resolution or zoom setting changed by accident on the operational PC, sometimes over a weekend or during a quiet period. This guide gives the practical fixes to get back a perfectly sharp display, without any heavy technical work.
The most common display problems on a video wall
On a video wall driven by an operational PC, several symptoms come up regularly:
- blurry or misaligned maps between the screens,
- incorrect Windows zoom (often 200 to 300 % instead of the recommended 100 %),
- distorted proportions for the websites or videos being shown.
These flaws tire the operators’ eyes, especially during long shifts, and hinder the fast reading of critical information.
The fixes for a sharp, readable display
Restoring a flawless display comes down to three simple settings:
- adjust the PC resolution so that it matches the native resolution of the video wall,
- set the Windows zoom back to 100 % to recover sharp text and graphics,
- check and synchronise the graphics outputs to keep the proportions correct.
Once these settings are applied, the result is immediate: a display that is sharp and perfectly readable, even from 1.5 to 2 metres away, with clear text and well defined map details. That is the level of readability that SDIS operators need when making decisions under pressure.
