How to position your screens correctly?
A well-tuned video wall starts with proper screen positioning in Windows. If the order or the alignment of the screens is wrong, your display will be offset and the zones will not land in the right place. Here is how to set everything up cleanly.
Accessing Windows display settings
To adjust the layout of your screens, right-click on the desktop, then choose “Display settings”.
To move a screen, select it with a left-click, hold the button down and drag it to the right place. With the Videowall function set to “Yes”, you can control up to 18 screens.
The essential settings
A few simple rules prevent most display problems:
- Screen 1 must be your main desktop. Select the first screen and tick the box “Make this my main display”.
- Set the scaling to 100 % for all screens (section “Scale and layout”).
- Use the same resolution on all your screens.
- Use the same graphics cards or, at worst, cards from the same brand. Do not mix an Nvidia card with an AMD card: you will run into trouble aligning your screens, and the display order may change at every startup.
How to arrange your screens
Depending on the shape of your video wall, always make sure to respect the order and the alignment of the screens.
Video wall on a horizontal line
The screens must be perfectly aligned on a single row and placed in the correct order, from left to right. A wrong order or a misaligned screen throws off the entire display.
Video wall on a vertical line
Same principle for a column: the screens are stacked in the correct order, from top to bottom, and aligned one above the other without any offset.
Square or rectangular video wall
For a grid (for example 2x2, 3x3, etc.), each screen must occupy its exact position in the grid. Check both the order of the screens and their horizontal and vertical alignment.
